The Read-A-Thon is one of many ways the Friends support our library. They sponsor programs for children and adults, they support continuing education for librarians, and they advocate for the library with funding agencies.

Story

Our beloved wife and mother Charlotte Ponder was a school teacher, realtor and friend to many in the community. Late in life, health issues limited her mobility and her vision, making it almost impossible for her to leave the house or to read. Then Charlotte discovered audiobooks. We checked out several audiobooks a week from the Marion County Public Library System, which Charlotte eagerly listened to every day. Audiobooks filled her days with joy and enabled her to stay connected to the world around her.

In honor of her life and the pleasure she experienced from listening to audiobooks, our family has established the Charlotte Ponder Memorial Fund through the Friends of the Ocala Public Library to enhance the library’s audiobook collection so that others may enjoy these books as well.

To extend the reach of this program, we are participating in the 2022 Read-A-Thon. Money raised on this page will be earmarked for the Charlotte Ponder Memorial Fund and used to enhance the audiobook collection. If you'd prefer to send a check, please make it payable to the Friends of the Ocala Public Library and address it to "Charlotte Ponder Memorial Fund -- Read-A-Thon, c/o Friends of the Ocala Public Library," 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL 34470.
