Story
There are around 800,000 people in the UK with dementia. One in three people over 65 will develop dementia, and two-thirds of people with dementia are women. The number of people with dementia is increasing because people are living longer. It is estimated that by 2021, the number of people with dementia in the UK will have increased to around 1 million.
Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia. On the 15th September 2013 I will be running 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields in the Great North Run in support of all the hard work Alzheimer's's Society does for those affected by this debilitating disease.
Any money raised can fund important research that will help to improve the quality of life for people with dementia, by tackling questions related to the causes of dementia, investigating good practice in care and practice, and pursuing a cure.
