Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September of 2020 Carolyne Martini my Wife and partner of 28 years was diagnosed with Brain Tumours and only given weeks to live. It hit us a like a train, particularly as we were in the midst of Covid and by November 5th all treatments and operations for Carolyne had been ruled out, due to the aggressive nature of the disease. We went home from the hospital and were left to try and not only deal with a horrific life changing situation, but also a prognosis of impending death. We decided to try and fight the illness with alternative medicines and I looked at all the alternative biochemistry options globally. For several months we battled this disease successfully to get stability and some more quality time together. But unfortunately in March 2021 a UTI and reaction to a commonly used cancer drug spawned a horrible psychosis that we needed help to stop.
Thames Hospice were there to help us in our time of need in late March 2021, giving us both the compassionate and dignified care we urgently needed. We stayed at the hospice until Carolyne passed on 23rd September 2021 at 6:02 am.
I am swimming lake Windermere in Carolynes Memory and to raise funds for Thames Hospice an organisation and family (as we see them) who help people in the most tragic circumstances when loved ones are dying. They took care of us and continue to do so.
This Care is something that every family facing terminal illnesses should be able to access and so this is why I swimming for Carolyne and all the others who need Care, Compassion and Dignity to pass on.
Please donate as much as you can in Carolynes Memory - these 11 miles of swimming the length of lake Windermere will be extremely tough for me and training has already been underway for several weeks but will ramp up further. This is my second attempt after illness stopped me on the first at 14.2km
I will keep everyone informed in how things are going in the lead up to this Swim For Carolyne. ❤️🕊XXX
