Story
In 2017 my mum received palliative care from the Sue Ryder hospice in Nettlebed. She had breast cancer and after surgery, courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy the time had come when these were no longer helping. She needed end of life care. The staff at the hospice showed kindness and support beyond measure, helping my family through one of the hardest times in our lives.
My mum started to visit the Sue Ryder Hospice in Nettlebed every week. This time was very important to her and for her. She was able to share her thoughts and feelings with others who were going through something similar. Six weeks before she died my mum spoke to me about where she wanted to die. It was a difficult conversation but I am so glad she was able to share her thoughts with me because when the time came, quite suddenly, but not unexpectedly, I knew in my heart that we were doing the right thing. We knew she wanted to die at home with us and that is what she did.
I am running for Sue Ryder so other people can benefit from the invaluable kindness and support that we received at a very difficult time. They knew what to say and when. Thank you so much. Donating to this brilliant charity will help to ensure their vital work can continue.
So I need to run 26 miles 385 yards. Thoughts and memories of my brilliant mum will spur me on. She was the best mum in the world. She was kind and she was always there for me, my sister and my dad.
My super friend Kate is going to run with me. Thank you so much. I can't wait to do it now!
