Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!
In November 2023, I will be embarking on the biggest challenge I have ever done and will be aiming to complete the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu in Peru. Along with 11 other colleagues from across different departments at Liverpool Airport, we aim to complete the trek in 5 days which includes 3 high mountain passes up to 4,200m! Alongside the physical challenges we will also have to forgo the luxury of washing, changing our clothes and the usual toilet facilities!
Why are we doing this? As an airport, we have set ourselves the challenge of raising £80,000 which will provide a family room for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit currently under construction at Alder hey. These family rooms will enable parents and families to stay with their poorly new-born babies whilst they receive expert care with state-of-the-art technology.
Over the next 6 months we will all be taking part in a variety of fundraising initiatives to help us get closer to this total from baking cakes, packing bags and washing cars, some of which can be seen below. We have already taken part in numerous events and fundraising activities but the most challenging to date has to be our "23 hour cycle to Lapland" which ended with a very sore bottom! We have also started training in earnest and have already successfully completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in April to help prepare us for Machu Picchu. We are now in training to do the national 3 peaks in September which will be our last big training challenge before the main event!
The Inca Trail trek will be extra-special for me as my amazing daughter, Anna, will also be joining us in this challenge. She aims to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity very much close to our hearts through our own personal experience, who also do an invaluable job of supporting teenage cancer patients at Alder Hey.
Thank you in advance of any donation you feel you are able to give no matter how large or small, it is all greatly appreciated. Thank you!
