Story
Hello Everyone,
I’m wandering if I can I ask you for some help!
Yes, I’m off again, this time to volunteering with Raleigh International as a Project Manager.
Raleigh International is a registered charity that works with young people from all backgrounds and nationalities including those disadvantaged or "at risk" to enable them to make a positive contribution and achieve personal and social development We achieve this by engaging young people in worthwhile community, environment and adventure projects which meet the needs of people living in developing countries.
This is Raleigh’s first year running projects in. They have set up a base inSouthern India, the projects running in the states of Karnataka, Kerela and Tamil Nadu. Raleigh are working in conjunction with WWF, Ministry of Environments and Forests and local NGOs, building up relationships for future projects to help for years to come.
This isn’t going to be a holiday!
I will be going in January for five months as a Volunteer Project Manager. I will be responsible for the well being of around 12 International Volunteers and the success of the project allocated to me. The objective is to organise and run a project site in a remote area with little external support. It’s going to be mainly physical manual work, basic living and food, building the camps ourselves. I’m getting really excited, scared and imagining that I will be leaving my comfort zone somewhere aroundHeathrowAirport!
Everyone on Raleigh Expeditions are volunteers, the projects are self funding and this is where I’m asking for your help. I’m looking to raise £1500.00 to cover food, water, equipment and materials for the projects and insurance. I would love to afford this alone, but I just can’t, so for my sins I am going to be running in the Birmingham Half Marathon and am hoping you might like to sponsor my 13.1 miles of pain!!
As most of you know, I’m not a natural athlete, in fact anything but, so you can appreciate that this isn’t something I’m going to find easy. So please have a giggle, share my pain and support me. The great day is Sunday 26th October.
Any amount you can spare will be amazing and very gratefully received. Thank-you.
Please help…
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Raleigh International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
