Story
Thankyou for visiting my JustGiving page.
On 11th October i am taking part in The Great Eastern Run- Half Marathon in Peterborough with my best friend Chris. This will be my 2nd Half marathon, and i had said that i wasn't going to fundraise this year, as i have recently had a knee injury and was unsure that i would be able to complete the 13miles. However last week we received the sad news that my nephew,Henry, who will be 2 in October has been diagnosed with epilepsy. When you receive news like this you immediately want to help, but feel helpless. I began to look into epilepsy and soon realised how complex the condition really is and how it affects those unfortunate to have it and their families. It affects over 450,000 people in the UK and 75 people are diagnosed with epilepsy a day.
Developments in drug therapy and medical scanning, along with major breakthroughs in the study of the human genome, mean that great progress has been made in understanding the causes of epilepsy in recent years, but continued research is so important as this will offer the very real possibility of developing therapies that could help transform the lives of those affected, like Henry.
This has inspired me to attempt to complete the run and try to raise as much as i can for Epilepsy Research Uk. They are the only national organisation exclusively dedicated to funding research into all areas of epilepsy. They give priority to those areas which have the potential to produce results in immediate problem areas, including: research leading to improvements in the accuracy of diagnosis;and research into improving the treatment and quality of life of those with epilepsy.
