Unfortunately neither myself or my sister Grace have been able to carry our children full term. From the moment they were born they needed immediate medical attention and were moved to the neonatal unit. Our babies remained in hospital for several weeks attached to a number of different monitors and receiving their food by a tube until they no longer needed help to breathe and the doctors agreed they were strong enough for us to take home. Thankfully throughout this emotional and traumatic time we received fantastic help and support from the hospital staff and Bliss every step of the way, even after the children were allowed home. Jamie is still being monitored every 6 months but otherwise all of them are doing great. We are the lucky ones there are lots of families that have needed much more support than us and have had to watch their babies undergo life saving surgery.

 

This is why we feel it is now our turn to give back for all the amazing support we received and help fund support to all the future babies and families that find themselves in the same position we have. Bliss provides invaluable support not only to premature babies but to all babies that require the help of the neonatal units. They are dedicated to ensuring that more babies not only survive but also go on to have the best possible quality of life. They support families and hospitals, fund cutting-edge research and campaign for improved hospital resources.

This Mothers Day Grace and I will be dressing as pirates (thanks for that suggestion Joshua!) and taking part in the 3k Fun Run from Pride Park in Derby to raise money for Bliss. We would be extremely grateful if you would sponsor us, any amount you can offer will be truly appreciated. We promise to upload photos of us in our crazy outfits, hopefully with a glass of Rum, once we have completed the run.
