Story
As many of you know, my daughter Mirren has been through a very tough time recently with her Heart Condition. Having had a second cardiac arrest, it has become clear that there is a lack of awareness of ICDs in children and the condition that Mirren is very rare, but could be preventable with testing.
Mirren has been such an inspiration to me over the past few years, in how she remains so positive, courageous and caring of others that I would like to help support her in her quest of raising awareness and support for children aged 10 plus, with heart conditions.
She is developing a branch of Pumping Marvellous so that she can support these children and this branch is called Heart Stars. I believe that Mirren is one of these Heart Stars and deserves a positive outcome to the trauma that she has endured.
This is because when Mirren first collapsed with cardiac arrest back in 2008, she couldn't find any support for children her age. Information was either aimed at the elderly or the very young or even worse for the families of those that have lost children.
Mirren has a very rare condition and is very lucky to have survived cardiac arrest, not once, but twice. She has an ICD fitted to protect her going forward. Had she not have survived she would have fallen into the category of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. We want to raise awareness and further research into this strain of Long QT, the preventorary measures and also raise awareness of ICDs in Children (only around 6 are fitted each year into children). Mirren's quest is to provide support for children who may be very anxious, worried or just feeling a little different.
Mirren wants to show everyone how lucky she is and support others.
We are fund raising in a number of different ways Netballathon 15th April 2012, Charity Football Tournament, 3 Peaks Challenge and I will be involved in one of the many events we have planned but should you wish to donate in the meantime to help give Mirren the extra bit of support she needs to get this to take off, then any donation large or small will be gratefully received.
Many thanks Caroline
