BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

So I am doing the Great North Run this year to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

In the UK there are 700,000 people with dementia, this figure does not include the large number of sufferers who have not been diagnosed - of whom there are many.  The Alzheimer's Society is a care and research charity which strives to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and those who care for them.  The Society also strives to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them whilst pursuing the ultimate goal of finding a cure.

Alzheimer's is not a kind disease.  The resources and help that is available is limited and this is why I have chosen to support and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.  I hope that the money I raise will in some small way help to improve the lives of those affected by dementia.

Thank you for visiting my page, Caroline xx
