Story
In November 2019 I will be undertaking a trek in the Sahara desert. We will be travelling to Morocco and spending 2 full days and 2 half days trekking across the different terrains of the desert and camping out at night.
This will be a personal challenge as I am not known for my love of camping and exercise - so why I am doing it?
St Wilfrid's Hospice is an amazing place with dedicated staff. The hospice were an amazing support to our family when my husband Shaun was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2009. Living a busy life with young children we had never imagined needing the services of a hospice. Shaun spent several periods of time in the hospice culminating in a 5 week stay before he passed away in March 2010. We both had pre-conceived ideas that a hospice would be a sad and depressing environment but we couldn't have been more wrong. The specialised care and dedication shown to Shaun by staff and volunteers alike enabled him to spend those final days peacefully with those closest to him.
The services provided by the hospice are free of charge to those that use them and most of their funding comes from the local community - something I was not aware of. The hospice is a vital service in our community and by raising money it will enable more people to be able to access the care and support that we did.
Any donations however small will be gratefully received and go towards transforming end of life care for many people.
