Story
I am pledging to run the London Marathon in April 2023 to support Lily’s Foundation, a UK based organization which fights Mitochondrial Disease and whose mission is to improve the lives of people affected while working towards a future where Mitochondrial Diseases can be effectively treated or cured.
What is Mitochondrial Disease and why is it so near and dear to me and my family?
Mitochondrial “Mito” Disease is when mitochondria (the tiny organelles that are present in nearly every cell in our bodies and which generate about 90% of the energy we need to live) fail to produce enough energy for the body to function properly. There are many different types of Mitochondrial Disease and also many different ways people can be affected by the disease, which makes it extremely hard to diagnose.
Two years ago my niece was diagnosed with a rare form of Mitochondrial Disease & today there is still no cure or even an effective treatment plan for those suffering with this lifelong disease.
I’m excited to run my first marathon in support of Lily’s Foundation as research on this disease hits close to home. I would love your support in raising as much as I can for Lily’s Foundation so we can work towards finding a breakthrough that will hopefully lead to a cure for Mito! Whether it’s physical, mental or emotional support, each and every Mito family has different needs and can use any level of support.
Every dollar makes a difference so if you’d like to support me in my run & to fighting Mitochondrial Disease, please donate here!
