Walk the Walk - MoonWalk London 2012 · 12 May 2012 ·
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. On 12th May I will be heading to London as a very special event is taking place - the 2012 Moonwalk.
Two decades ago there was very little open discussion about cancer - let alone breast cancer - information and support was minimal. Thankfully things have changed. The other day someone asked me if being diagnosed with cancer at a young age (relatively speaking and no laughing please) had changed my life. It was an interesting question that made me stop and think. Without a doubt it has impacted upon some of my choices in life but more importantly it has resulted in me doing so many things that I would not have ever done - I have rattled tins, sold badges, done magazine articles, been on GMTV, taken part in the fabulous Breast Cancer Fashion show and now I have turned my energies back to the Moonwalk again.
The Moonwalk (which has absolutely nothing to do with Michael Jackson) is a sponsored charity walk. I say walk, but we are not talking about a little trip around the block, no we are talking about a marathon - yes all 26.28 miles.
Why the Moonwalk ? Because we take up this challenge through the night starting around midnight.
Oh yes and because the event is in support of breast cancer charities we walk the streets of London in decorated bras. The Moonwalk not only raises money for those charities but it also raises awareness - when I was diagnosed 22 years ago 1 in 12 women would have breast cancer now that is 1 in 8 and whilst huge in roads have been made with regard to early diagnosis and treatment, there is still more to be done as someone is diagnosed with breast cancer every 10 minutes in this country.
So on Saturday I will be joining 15000 other like minded individuals and we will be keeping our fingers crossed that the night stays dry until we have all crossed the finishing line.
The atmosphere on the night is truely amazing but I know that around 3 ish my body will be crying out for its bed and it is at this point that the support I have received from everyone will keep me going.
So if you feel that you are able to help me cross the finish line I would be ever so grateful. This can be done by sending me a cheque made payable to Walk the Walk Worldwide or if you prefer to donate through this site it is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Walk The Walk Worldwide will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, extra tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Unfortunately I won't have my four legged friend to keep me company on my training walks as his paws aren't made for distance these days just the rain and my ipod.
Many of you know that I have been involved in various activities relating to Breast Cancer over the last 22 years and have supported me in the past. I would just like to thank you for your continued support.
Huge thanks
Caroline xx
