Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In March 2015, I will be travelling to the Sabah region of Malaysian Borneo to partake in a group expedition, with Newcastle University, to construct a gravity-fed water system. This system will provide running potable water for the local community. The mountainous, jungle environment causes a major problem for the community, especially woman and children, who are required to undertake daily treks to access a clean water source, a basic amenity, that so many of us take for granted. It is an unsafe, time-consuming daily process.
I am raising money for Raleigh International, a sustainable development charity who focus on providing access to safe water and sanitation, protecting vulnerable environments and building resilient communities. The money I am raising allows Raleigh to maintain their long-term commitments to each country they work in. Money raised does not go towards sending me out there or any personal equipment.
Our team will work in conjunction with the local community, sharing our engineering knowledge in order for them to improve their understanding and allowing them to maintain the dam and connecting pipe network once the team have left the community after three weeks on site. This therefore provides a sustainable solution for the communities water requirements.
In order to raise money for this charity, I am partaking in a 10k run on the 16th November 2014, and cycling the 'coast-to-coast', 140 miles, over three days starting on the 21st November 2014. Training started two weeks ago, and it is tough (especially in this winter weather)!
Please help me to support the amazing work they do, any donation will be greatly appreciated!
