Story
My brother in law Alex was diagnosed with primary progressive MS over 7 years ago, a condition that's has no treatment or cure. He suffers from chronic nerve pain and problems with balance and coordination. The MS Society are investing in research into the cause and cure for MS, effective treatments and supporting families and carers.
MS is a neurological condition most commonly diagnosed in people aged 20- 40. MS is the result of damage to the myelin- the protective layer surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system. This interferes with the messages from the brain and other parts of the body causing a wide range of symptoms including mobility issues and problems with coordination. In Scotland there are around 11000 people with MS.
