34th Great Wilderness Challenge · 17 August 2019 ·

One of Scotland's most gruelling endurance sporting events for charity. The Great Wilderness Challenge more than aptly lives up to its name. Primarily a charity fund raising event the GWC has raised over £3.9 million for Healthcare charities since inception.

Story

The 25 miles is described as a strenuous route in amazing surroundings.  The route follows stalkers’ paths, rough moorland paths, forest track and estate road, and has two river crossings (with no bridges!) It involves about 900 metres of ascent/descent, and has what previous participants have described as the ‘bad bog’ in the middle! Oh, and it could well be midgie!! The route must be completed by 5pm, giving 9.5 hours from the drop off at 8.30am.

Sponsorship raised goes to a range of Highland charities, the main beneficiaries being the Highland Hospice, with others including MS Therapy Centre Inverness, Crossroads Skye, Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers, Headway Highland, Inverness Samaritans, etc.

Your support is much appreciated.
