Story
My husband Miles has lived with Parkinson's Disease for the past 20 years having first developed symptoms at the early age of 36. Sadly after a few years he had to give up working as a GP, a job he loved.
In 2012 he had life enhancing brain surgery, with the insertion of a Deep Brain Stimulator at the National Hospital for Neurosurgery in London. This, as well as improvements in medication resulting from research funded by many organisations including Parkinsons UK has helped slow down the inevitable decline in Miles and other sufferers. Unfortunately though, the treatments remain imperfect and many of the worst symptoms of the disease arise as a result of side effects of treatment itself.
Significant improvements in treatment for Parkinson's Disease and even the possibility of a cure itself remain close. As well as providing support for sufferers and their carers, Parkinsons UK initiates and funds much of the most important research into the condition. Please help me, in my small way, support Parkinsons UK to improve the lives of Miles and other sufferers of this progressive and often devastating illness.
Thank you
Caroline
