Story
In 2019 it will be 15yrs since mum died, having been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic and liver cancer when she was just 10yrs older than I am now.
She fostered kids when I was small; took a job, she didn’t enjoy, just to support our education; and retrained later in her life as a primary school teacher, achieving her dream to teach for just 2yrs before she got sick.
This year, I’m mentoring for XLP, seeing a teenager for a few hours a week to hopefully help them achieve their potential. Rather than give money to a cancer charity, I wanted to raise money for something mum cared deeply about.
XLP stands for ‘The eXceL Project’ - a charity at the cutting edge of urban youth work in the UK, working to create positive futures for young people. #xlplondon
