Story
Hiya! I'm Caroline, a third year Maths and Theoretical Physics student at the University of St. Andrews. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
This summer, 8 others and I will be cycling 3000 miles along the Silk Road, from Xi'an in China to Tashkent in Uzbekistan. We are part of S.T.A.A.G. society, the university adventure group that partake in varied challenges throughout the year. The highlight of the yearly calendar is the summer challenge, which the team tailor to meet their aspirations & realistic goals. We decided to challenge ourselves to an extreme cycle, for 2 months during July and August over rough terrain, mountains & desert, along a carefully planned route
However, crucial to the aims of S.T.A.A.G. is charity. We can't simply take from the environment around us to enjoy hikes, cycles, long drives & camping; we have to give back! We support sustainable living, environmental awareness & humanitarian aid, and therefore for our challenge, we are supporting two charities. Our first charity is the Elnura Foundation, which supports impoverished children & elderly in Kazakhstan, in particular funding the education, shelter and healthcare of the homeless. We are also supporting Fauna & Flora International, who carry out conservation work throughout the world, where we will focus our fundraising on the protection of the snow leopard, which used to be prolific in the regions we are visiting.
