Caroline & Paul (aka the Dody's) are running the Great North Run for Alzheimer's Society!

There are currently 750,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and by 2025 there will be over a million. The current financial cost of dementia to the UK is over £20 billion a year, so you can only imagine where we will be in just 15 years time.

Caroline's running the Great North Run...have you stopped laughing yet? I promise this is no joke, I really am running 13.1 miles on Sunday 19 September.

I can hear you all thinking 'but she can't run for a bus?' but I promise you, for the last three months I have been pounding the streets of York in preparation, after all, there are lots of reasons why I am doing this...

1. To challenge myself and do something that I never thought I would be able to do

2. To raise some money for a really worthwhile cause

3. To reduce my cankles

4. Because 'running isn't my forte' (Dawn Stocker, Secondary school PE teacher and all round legend)

5. Because I love cake and I don't exercise enough

6. So I can proudly say 'yep, I've done a half marathon'!

Paul

A couple of years ago I did a 10k, so now I'm upping my game. I didn't raise money last time so I'm trying to make up for it for the Great North Run.

Much like Caroline I also love cake, and having been the main recipient of many tasty treats recently thanks to her new love of baking, needed an excuse to up the exercise.

I thrive on a challenge, and so am aiming to complete the race in 1 hour 45 mins!
