Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In this pandemic much of the focus is on protecting the physical health of the vulnerable. Teenagers, though physically strong are mentally more vulnerable. Many have seen their schooling disrupted, exam results given rather than earned, the social contact so important to them hindered, job hopes disappear and the list could go on.
Teenage anxiety and depression has been significantly on the increase in the last decade. It is now going through the roof and the NHS does not have the resources to support them.
I am raising money for this charity to help teenagers and in doing so, also help my own mental health. I work in mental health and it is important to me to practise what I preach.
This time last year I had a lot of things to look forward too - a trip to Abu Dhabi and a big birthday being highlights. The trip was cancelled, the party cancelled and the day before the big birthday my Dad passed away. Rather than it being the birthday I was intending to be really special, I started the day with calling an undertaker to collect his body.
There is much in the world that we cannot control and the first 90 days of 2020 highlighted that. I want to have the first 90 days of 2021 to include at least one thing I can control and feel good about.
I know that doing a million steps is something I can control.
I know that being outside in nature and exercising leaves my head in a better place.
And by doing something positive, I get a little buzz back for it too - everyone wins!
So if you would like to support teenage mental health, I would hugely appreciate your support and aim to match every donation made.
I will be placing updates on my facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AddingZestLtd) so please join me there too and help me to keep going to achieve 1 million steps in 90 days.
