Story
Hi everyone!
In July last year I joined FirstLight Trust, and if you know me; you'll know that this is something I never imagined I'd become involved in, but I'm so glad I did!
I'd like to fund raise for this very unique charity; we support veterans of our Armed Forces and Blue Light Services.
I'm the hub coordinator for FirstLight Trust in Hawick, Scottish Borders. My role is to offer support to our veterans, whatever their issue may be. Our hubs are open all day every day, and no appointment is needed, which is so important. It takes a lot of courage, and often a lot of time, for a veteran to admit they need help, so we have to be available when they do. We assist in general things, like companionship, form filling, sign posting, debt management, but also the deeper aspects of support, like settling back in to civilian life after service, addiction, depression, anxiety and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) to name a few.
I've seen first hand the amazing difference we make, had veterans say to me that we make their lives easier, that they're glad we're here. We never turn anyone away, we're there for the long haul if need be, we have no time limit on our support. But there's so much more we can do. That's why I want to walk 96 miles, to help us help them.
So, on the 25th April, my friend Sonja and I are heading off! (Thank you Sonja!), and we'd like your support along the way. If you can't join us for parts of the walk, that's fine, we'll let you off as long as you make a wee donation!
I'll post updates as we go...…..thank you!
Lots love,
Caroline & Sonja
