I didn't think it could happen to me and my family, but it did.
Earlier this year, having been pregnant for just over five months, my little baby Annette had to be born into this world, as we were both at risk of losing our lives if this pregnancy would have continued.
My life changed completely. Overnight I went from being a carefree pregnant woman to being a mum of a premature baby in an incubator at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UCLH.
From the first day at the unit I have witnessed what major role the Bliss Charity plays in the care for premature babies. Their work stretches from providing life saving equipment for the babies to supporting parents and families who are frightened, worried, insecure and feel helpless, just like my family and I.
Little Annette only lived for 39 days. The surgery that would have given her a chance to live never took place, she was just too young and fragile. She spent her very short life at the Neonatal Unit. As sad as this is, I am glad I can say that I know everything had been done for her. She was in good care and the staff who looked after her day and night did everything they could to save her.
My friend Carol and I want to raise money for Bliss so that their outstanding work for premature babies can continuously help other families in the same situation. Although Annette did not make it, thousands of other premature babies were given the chance to live, thanks to the Bliss Charity.
