Story
In 2006 I was diagnosed with a rare liver condition, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, PSC.
PSC is an immune-mediated disease of the bile ducts with no known medical treatment. It's referred to as 'the last black box in hepatology' because there is so much that the specialist doctors and researchers don't yet understand about this complex condition. People with PSC urgently need a treatment that works.
I have been very lucky to have had very few symptoms so far, but this is sadly not usually the case. People with PSC have to deal with debilitating symptoms, constant and serious bacterial infections and in a lot of cases require liver transplant, which unfortunately isn't always a cure for this horrible condition. We are also at a high risk of getting bile duct or bowel cancer. Sadly many PSC sufferers lives are shortened by this disease.
I live in hope that one day a cure will be found, but without the help of all the fundraisers and charitable donations from people like you, this would be very difficult. PSC Support is a small charity that relies on donations to fund and drive ground-breaking research, taking us closer and closer to a cure. Every penny really does count.
I am beyond grateful for your support. Thank you.
