Story

My name is George and I am a 14 year old with Asperger's, but this is not really about my story it's about my Grandads.

In September 2014 my Grandad was diagnosed with cancer, the cancer was at the tip of the pancreas and the jujenum. Grandad had to have an operation, he was initially given a 1 in 5 chance of the operation being a success, then he was told because of his COPD that he probably wouldn't make it through the operation and if he did, it was unlikely he would make it home from hospital. In November 2014 he had the operation, it was a success in that they got everything they needed to and he did come home from hospital. He always has liked proving people wrong.

In January 2015 he started a course of chemotherapy, 3 weeks on and 1 week off for 6 cycles. In August 2015 after his first scan things were looking ok. In November 2015 he had a further scan and the cancer had returned. In December 2015 he saw his oncologist who told him that the cancer was inoperable because of where it was, in the oncologists words "the first thing I need to say is that there is no cure, but the second thing I have to say is that I don't expect you to expire anytime soon". So in January 2016 Grandad started another course of chemotherapy, this was much tougher, it took it's toll on Grandad physically and because of this 4 lots of chemo were delayed a few weeks while Grandads body had more time to recover.

In May Grandad had another scan and the news is that for now it seems the chemo is managing the cancer. So we are looking forward to a good Summer before the next scan in September.

In honour of my Grandad I have decided to shave my head on Friday the 10th of June 2016 to raise money for Cancer Research UK. And yes that is the front of my head in the photo my hair really is that long now!
