Story
Many moons ago, a motivational speaker came to work and I remember him saying that, when faced with a mountain, there were two types of people; those who were compelled to climb it and others who would stay at the bottom and look up. I've always considered myself to be the in the latter group, and if a deckchair and glass of wine was available too then so much the better.
Metaphors aside however, on Saturday 10th September, I'm putting myself into the first group and climbing a mountain for real (Schiehallion) to raise money for the Nicola Murray Foundation, along with my neighbours Maria and Caroline.
Caroline’s sister, Nicola, died in 2010, aged 34, from a generic form of cancer that predisposes a person to colorectal, endometrial or ovarian cancer at a young age.
The Nicola Murray Foundation has been set up in memory of Nicola as a means to perpetuate the care and concern that she showed to others in her life. The Foundation is funding research by Edinburgh University and Western General Hospital (Edinburgh) into this particular form of Ovarian cancer.
For those of you who know me, you'll know I don't really 'do' exercise, and so the training and climb itself will be quite a challenge for me!
Thank you so much,
Carol
