Thank you so much, everyone... The new total raised so far is £491.00... Almost the first £500 to go towards a new school in Africa... It motivates me to get up before 6:00 and go for my long hilly run (15 miles before proper breakfast). Thanks and night night

Wow! We have raised £130 in a day. £218 is the current total! A big thank to all those who have donated towards building a school in Africa... Let's keep spreading the word (share with your contacts the link, please) www.justgiving.com/carmine-de-Grandis

Dear friends, colleagues, parents and students ,
I am sending this email in the hope that you will consider sponsoring me as I raise funds for the building of a new school in Cameroon (Africa). This is a really worthy cause... the school buildings, once built, will have a life of at least 40 years so that the local young people will not have their education ruined by falling down buildings or lack of  basic resources (desks, chairs and black/white boards).

To do so I will be running one of the toughest Alpine marathons.  This Swiss Alpine Marathon takes place on 30th July in Switzerland  (www.swissalpine.ch).

I am working really hard to succeed in both aims and as I go through some really demanding training, I would really like to focus my mind and the mind of those who know me on the dreadful situation faced by many young people around the world. These young people are often denied the basic to right to being educated on the basis of issues such as lack of funds to provide them with buildings (as it happens to be the case in Cameroon).
A whole school can be built with £20,000... my aim is to raise awareness and hopefully raise at least £7500... I know I am setting my sight quite high, but if the cause is publicised and many students/teachers/families and others get on board, this is not an impossible dream/goal.

I have run almost 2000 miles over the last two and a half years both in Norfolk and in the Mountains (Italy, Switzerland and the UK) to prepare for this race and I have researched thoroughly the cause which I have linked it to.
I am far from feeling ready, but I have now entered for this race and I am determined to finish it. I have succeeded in the "Solomon South Downs Marathon" earlier this month and I am now trying to continue the final stages of my training before the big day. This weekend I will be running the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon and I hope I will be on track again.

Looking up, Going High, Preparing and Enabling Success, Going the Distance, One step after the other are all meaningful ways of looking at images which will highlight similarities between this hard race and the struggle to help all young people access a decent education worldwide.

Please, if you can, support this cause by donating something. If you are passionate about education and have a few or many friends, spread the word and send them this link http://www.justgiving.com/carmine-de-grandis/
