Story
From 17th - 24th October 2020, the team below will be embarking on a once in a lifetime opportunity to work at the Khaya Centre in Lehae, 30km South of Johannesburg. The community there do not have access to basic services and have very limited life opportunities. The visiting team will work to train local nurses to assess vision and provide appropriate reading glasses to the local people. Lack of reading glasses for the over 50's effectively makes them visually impaired. In addition to the reading glasses for the over 50's, younger people will also be assessed. Identifying young people who need glasses and providing the glasses, allows them to make the most of their educational opportunities. Once the nurses are trained, they will continue to role out this service throughout the rest of the year.
