Story
I have chosen to try to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart (and head!), Epilepsy Actionby running the 10K Dorney Dash on Saturday 20 July 2013. Although I try keeping fit in general, I have never been a good runner and so this is tough personal challenge for me.
A charity sponsored event for Epilepsy Actionis something that I have wanted to do for a long time but I have been putting it off for just as long. However, since having my wonderful son, James, I now have the focus and drive to not just think/talk about the things that I want to do but to actually go out there and do them to make James proud of his mummy!
I have written a little bit about the charity which I have chosen to support below:
Epilepsy Action changes the lives of people with epilepsy.
Epilepsy Action advice and support. Its Epilepsy Helpline and on-line support are one-to-one services that people with epilepsy and those who care for them have called a lifeline. Epilepsy Action advice services were used by 1.1 million people last year in 2012. At the same time, local branches and events support people in their own communities. Epilepsy can be an isolating condition, so this support network for people with epilepsy, carers and families, can make all the difference.
Epilepsy Action provides and improve healthcare.Epilepsy Action has placed over 90 Sapphire Nurses - specialists in this complex neurological condition. They fund research to increase our understanding of epilepsy and ultimately improve diagnosis and treatment for people with the condition. They provide healthcare workers and teachers with the information they need in their care of people with epilepsy. Epilepsy Action is accredited by The Department of Health’s Information Standard, providing useful and accurate information for patients to take home with them.
Epilepsy Action fights for a better future. Thanks to its members and supporters, Epilepsy Action is the voice of people living with epilepsy. They use this strength to campaign for change nationally – for a fair chance to get a good education and a job and to receive the right care. Epilepsy Action raises awareness of epilepsy with the public, to help stamp out stigma and discrimination.
As a charity, over 90p in every £1 of this life-changing support is funded by donations from people like you.
Wish me luck (I’m going to need it!)
