Story
Hi everyone,
On the 23rd April 2023 I will be running the London Marathon as part of team Sense, an incredible charity who work tirelessly to ensure no one is left out of life, no matter what.
All of you reading this have the ability to see, most of you would have spoken to someone today; whether it be a family member, a friend or the person who served you in the shop. Now imagine that you do not have the ability to see, speak or hear.
This is where Sense comes in, they provide support to every person living with complex disabilities that can make it a challenge to communicate, access information and take part in life. Without donations, they would not be able to run art projects, bring sport to more people with complex disabilities, provide holidays and short breaks, or support children and their families to find new ways to communicate.
I hope that we can all agree that the work they do changes lives.
The next 6 months are going to be physically and mentally gruelling, but knowing that I'm raising money for such a worthwhile cause will encourage me to pound the pavements in the rain, after a tough day at work or when I simply feel like I have no more steps left in me.
I would love it if you could all support me on this journey and donate where possible, attend some of the fundraising events coming up, or simply send me a message of encouragement.
I'll keep you all updated with how training and fundraising is going. I'll share the highs and lows of the journey to the start line, knowing that nothing I'll experience could rival the difficulties that the people who are supported by Sense face in everyday life.
Let's smash my fundraising target together and I'll do the running part.
Carly xx
With a route passing a number of famous London landmarks and finishing on The Mall, the Virgin Money London Marathon is an unforgettable experience. The thousands of people lining the streets to cheer you on, makes it an atmosphere like no other! Sense is a national charity that supports people with complex communication needs, including those who are deafblind, to be understood, connected and valued. They are there for every person who faces communication barriers in a world that relies on being able to see and hear well to be connected. Together, we can unlock barriers to communication so no one is isolated, left out or unable to fulfil their potential.
