Story
Hey everyone thanks so much for visiting my JustGiving page. I am raising money for NASS, it may not be one of the most well-known charities but they do great work and need all of the help and donations they can get. I decided to run the Plymouth Half Marathon solely to raise some money and awareness for AS sufferers. My mum has been a sufferer as long as I can remember and even though she wasn’t diagnosed for many years when she finally was everything made sense and she finally had the answers she was looking for. Her AS can never be cured but she is a strong woman and will not let it beat her. Unfortunately for my mum she also is allergic to all medications so she is unable to take anything to help with the pain of AS, however she is not alone there are other people out there like her and she uses forums and Facebook groups and the NASS website to get and share ideas and stories.
In November last year I decided that I wanted to lose weight, get fit and basically live a healthier, happier life. So after a month of dieting throughout November I decided that I would start running to keep fit, I did a bit of running in the past but nothing serious. It took me a little while to get into running but as soon as I got the bug I was off and I now run 4 to 5 times a week and have lost nearly 3 stone. So, to put my new found fitness to good use I have decided to raise some money for a charity close to mine & my families heart, NASS.
All donations, big or small will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. Carly J
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of chronic (long-term) arthritis that affects parts of the spine, including bones, muscles and ligaments. The condition can be severe, with around one in 10 people at risk of long-term disability.
The National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS) is the only registered charity dedicated to the needs of people affected by ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in the UK.
Since 1976 NASS has played a crucial role in providing accurate and up to date information allowing people with AS to have a greater understanding of their disease and in turn, make more informed choices in the management of their symptoms.
