Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Carl Claxton and I am the Seniors Captain at Gedney Hill Golf Club for 2010/2011.
The 27th. July is designated as "Captain's Day" and I have decided to make it a charity day for the RNLI an organisation I have always supported, having been born in Wells Next The Sea and having had some relatives as members of the Wells lifeboat crew, more than one as the coxswain.
In addition to the day I had the fortuitous idea to platy as many of the Norfolk coastal courses as would allow my friends and me a courtesy round. We will raise money by getting sponsors for the number of Stableford points we can amass (should be about 30 per round).
At the moment we have the agreement of 5 courses (Sutton Bridge, Heacham Manor, Searles at Hunstanton, West Runton and Mundesley). There is also the possibility of playing Hunstanton, Cromer, Brancaster and Caister.
At the present time three dates have been set aside. 4th., 11th., and 18th. of July.
Although we have no photographs yet we will add them as we go along and keep you up to date with fundraising progress.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Monday, 4th. July 2011.
First outing today. Bill, Tom and I went to Mundesley. We had a brilliant morning and the players and staff at the club were very welcoming.
Scores: Bill 34 points.
Carl 31 points.
Tom 30 points.
Monday, 11th. July 2011.
A.M. Heacham Manor Golf Club.
Thanks to Mike and all the great guys at HMGC. Bob, Bill and I were welcomed with open arms (not literally). We had a terrific morning joining in the Seniors weekly Stableford competition; in fact Bill played so well that he finished 3rd. with 38 points. I scored 33 and Bob scored 27. Thanks to the Seniors section for their donation of £20 to the cause.
P.M. Searle's Golf & Country Club.
Bob and I continued during the afternoon and again were made most welcome by Ed and the staff at Searle's.
We were only able to complete 9 holes (age catches up with one eventually) but we both enjoyed the course and finished with 18 and 19 points respectively.
Thus the running totals to date are:
Bill: 72 points (from 36 holes).
Bob: 45 points (from 27 holes).
Carl: 83 points (from 45 holes).
Tom: 30 points (from 18 holes).
We are looking forward to Sutton Bridge next Monday.
Monday, 18th. July 2011. Sutton Bridge Golf Club.
Bob, Bill, Tom and myself really enjoyed ourselves this morning. Thanks to the generosity of Anthony and Sutton Bridge Golf Club for a profitable a.m. Bob's 2nd 9 gross 33 was as good as I have seen anyone play (Hope his sponsors are as enthusiastic). He finished with an excellent 41 points. Tom & I both had 32 and Bill 30.
So the final (for now) totals are as follows.
Bill; 102 points from 54 holes.
Bob: 86 points from 45 holes.
Tom: 62 points from 36 holes.
Carl: 115 points from 63 holes.
So, a grand total of 365 points gained. Come on guys surely that is worth a few pennies to help the RNLI.
Wednesday, 27th. July 2011. Senior Captain's Day at Gedney Hill Golf Club.
Early start but some people were already there.
Shambolic start. Some not turned up, others did who were not expected. No problem. We can do it.
51 players including myself (thanks Terry for including me in the last group).
All well until poor old Chris fell backwards over Spridge's trolley and broke her wrist. Thanks to Mark for his sterling efforts to ease the pain with a makeshift sling made from his waterproof trousers (commendations from the hospital for that and commiserations to Daviod and Chris who were unable to take their short break because of the problem.
Congratulations to Merv (guest winner), to Carol (Seniors winner) and to Roz (ladies winner).
Ultimately a good day with over £500 raised for the RNLI.
Thanks to all the sponsors who provided all the prizes which, of course, swelled the charity fund.
Let us have think as to where we go from here.
