Walled City Marathon Derry Londonderry Doire · 2 June 2013 ·
Almost one year ago i started running to improve both my physical and mental health with a wonderful group of people in the OLT, it was the beginning of Bolt running club.
I ran my first half marathon 9 weeks later and the memory of my mum is what got me through. In a moment of madness and the hype surrounding the city of culture year i signed up for the Derry walled Marathon and this tme decided i would once again run with my fellow Bolt runners but use this as an opportunity to raise money for the Foyle Hospice.
When my mum was ill we were supported by the Hospice as was a dear fiend who also lost his battle with cancer. The hospice is there to support and help care for our loved ones at the end of their life but they also provide other services to help us, family and friends left behind.
If my mother were here she'd say im not wise running a marathon but she'd be proud of my efforts and achievements. So this, my one only marathon is in her memory and supporting a worthy charity.
