Story
Back in July 2014 we were heartbroken to be given the news that Ebonie was diagnosed with cancer. What looked like just a small bruise on her bum, turned out to be a very rare type of cancer called a germ cell tumour. It was very aggressive, growing larger every day and had already spread to Ebonies lungs.
Within a few days of being diagnosed at Great Ormond Street, Ebonie was started on chemotherapy- a mixture of 3 different drugs over a 3 day period of which she would have a total of 6 cycles. Thankfully the chemo was really effective in shrinking the tumour but came with its own horrible side effects.
Jumping forward a bit, Ebonie has since had a big operation to remove her tumour which was a big success although Ebs has been unfortunate to now have been dianosed with further live cancer cells in her lungs, Ebs has now started her second treatment of chemo of which we hope goes as well as the first.
Throughout this difficult time one of the things that has really help Ebonie has been through the Beads of Courage programme. This is a programme that Be Child Cancer Aware provide in the UK as well as the other help and support they offer. They provide beads of all shapes and colours to over 4000 children. Each beads represents a different part of treatment/hospital visit which helps children and their families explain and visualise the journey that they have faced and are still ongoing.
Ebonie has over 400 beads to date, with every single one having its own significance. She absolutely adores them and is always keen to show them off. They are a really good way of sitting back and remembering the journey we have faced and how far we have come since Ebonies diagnosis.
Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for Be Child Cancer aware so they can help other families and increase the awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer in children.
We appreciate any donations that you can afford, no matter how big or small and appreciate all your support.
Many Thanks,
Leon and Carl (Ebonies Daddy and Grandad)
