On Friday 5 July 2013, 12 coaches filled with parents and friends of Blackburn Community Sports Club will be embarking on the Welsh 3000’s Walk.This involves walking 24 miles and summiting 16 Welsh peaks of over 3000 feet, all within a 24-hour period.The walk is in memory of My Uncle Gary Hamer (Executive Committee Member) who died suddenly last year.The walk, which aims to raise £10,000, will support three charities:

 

1.Blackburn Community Sports Club

2.Legacy Rainbow House

3.Finlay’s Friends (Holly House)

Legacy Rainbow House – Erin Ford

Legacy Rainbow House specialise in providing services for children with brain injuries, disabilities and life limiting conditions from its centre of excellence, The Legacy.They are currently creating and implementing new innovative services meeting the needs of children, young people and their families, via rehabilitation, therapy, education and recreation built on a philosophy known as Conductive Education.

Children are able to attend The Legacy on a full time or sessional basis, according to their needs and capabilities. They are the only centre in the North of England to offer this range of services. They receive no direct funding from Government or the health service; however, they are supported almost entirely by corporate partnerships, sponsorship and community fundraising.

Erin Ford (daughter of one of the walkers) is 5 years old and has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and attends Legacy Rainbow House for Conductive Therapy to improve both her gross motor and fine motor skills.

 

Finlays Friends (Holly House)

This Charity was chosen by Gary’s family in support of their nephew Alfie who was born with Downs Syndrome and other related health problems. He attends Holly House and his family are grateful for support they have all received.Alfie’s dad Carl will be taking part in the walk.

 

The aim of Holly House is to provide a comprehensive community service to pre-school children with special needs.Their multi-disciplinary team work in partnership with families to enable children to achieve their full potential in all areas.

It offers a happy, safe and stimulating environment, providing individual care for each child.Children who attend participate in a wide range of therapies.They also do respite sessions for children up to 3 years old which Alfie attends this gives parents a bit of breathing space
