Story
Welcome and thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I am one of 26 riders, from all over the world, competing in The Mongol Derby in August. This is no ordinary race - it will take me through 1000km of the "Land of the Blue Sky" on horseback, following in the hoof prints of Chinggis Khan’s messengers. The Mongol Derby will be recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest horse race in the world, should we succeed!
There is no set route for this race and we must navigate between horse-stations (Morin Urtuus) every 40km where we will rest in gers (canvas and felt tents), refuel on mutton and mares milk and change steeds, before continuing on this incredible journey.
Mongolia is an arid and remote land where nomads constitute nearly one-third of the population. The money raised will be used by Mercy Corps to support herding families and rural communities through economic, agricultural and educational programs. The Mongol Derby is run in close partnership with the Mongolian herding community, who will be providing the horses at each Urtuu. Full veterinary care will be provided for the horses before, during and after the race.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me as Mercy Corps gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
