Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We decided to start this page to help raise money for Tiny Life as our little daughter Cara came into the world 6 weeks early, weighing only 3lbs 8oz after suffering from Intrauterine growth restriction.
Thanks to the vigilance of the staff at the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital in Belfast, this was spotted at an early stage and baby McGill was monitored on a daily basis and delivered at the optimal time.
Cara was cared for in the Neonatal Unit of the Royal for a week and was then transferred to Antrim Area Hospital Neonatal Unit where she remained for a further 2.5 weeks.
The care she received in both hospitals was superb and thankfully she was not a sick baby - just a small baby who simply needed to feed and grow.
Tiny Life are committed to funding medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage; and offer practical and emotional support to ensure that the parents of premature and ill babies get all the help they need.
They sponsor the Parents' Room in Antrim Neonatal Unit where we were able to spend the night with Cara before she got home.
We got the idea of setting up this page from Catherine and Brian Rainey whose baby girl Maisie was also born prematurely in October 2010 and who thankfully is now thriving.
We are extremely grateful for the generous gifts Cara has received since she was born and thought that, in lieu of donating to Cara's already bulging wardrobe, people can donate to Tiny Life instead!
