Story
This is a hard time for everyone, but some people are struggling a
lot more. A meal is something many of us take for granted but there are unfortunately many out there that don’t have that necessity. With the shorter nights and colder weather drawing in, a hot meal or drink is something so important. In addition, the new level of restrictions and loss of jobs means many more people may be struggling with food insecurity and therefore to feed their families. I chose Homeless Project Scotland because they are a relatively new charity but one I often see doing good work, including through the soup kitchen they run 3 nights a week and work they do with other organisations such as EBI Unites. They have readily adapted to the covid crisis and continue to provide support to the homeless and vulnerable through the distribution of meals, food parcels, and hygiene packs.
To raise money for this amazing charity I am walking 210km over 21
days starting on the first full day of Tier 4 (21/11/20-11/12/20). This is the equivalent of walking from Erskine to Aviemore!
My goal is to raise £210, so £1 per km walked. I know it’s a particularly
difficult time so many people will not be able to give to charity. If anyone could even donate £1 it would mean so much.

Homeless Project Scotland is a fledgling charity, set up in October 2019 by a handful of volunteers that wanted to give homeless people on the streets of our towns and cities hot drinks and food during the harsh winter nights.Initially we set out with backpacks of flasks and sandwiches walking the streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh to ensure that anyone found struggling was able at least to get a hot drink and something to eat. Within a short period of time, we managed to recruit a team of volunteers who began to distribute a selection of food, essential toiletries and warm clothes. We were fortunate to enlist the support from major companies such as Aldi, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer, who have kindly donated supplies of food which we collect during the day and then distribute to homeless shelters throughout Glasgow, Edinburgh and Lanarkshire in the evenings.
