Thanks for taking the time to visit the Car 27 Rhino Charge page!
We are competing in the Rhino Charge off-road competition in June in Kenya https://rhinocharge.co.ke/rhino-charge-2022/. The "Charge" has been going for over 30 years and is one of Africa's premier off road challenges.
The event exists to raise funds for conservation in Kenya, and has achieved remarkable results protecting forests, elephants and rhinos, while also reducing human/wildlife conflict. It takes place annually in different remote locations across Kenya. In addition to sponsorship funds raised for conservation, a fee levied on competitors and spectators supports local community projects at each venue.
The Rhino Charge is a carbon neutral event: all emissions are offset through REDD+ investments in savannah and forest protection. In addition, Car 27 team members have committed to offset all carbon emissions from their preparation and participation in the competition.
Team 27 "Jeepers Creepers" is unique in competing in a 76 year old car - a WW2 era Willys Jeep! 2021 was the first time we competed, and we finished top (of the bottom quarter!). Our old machinery beat many modern 4wd behemoths. We learned a lot, and we are confident we can do even better in 2022!
All teams in the competition commit to raising funds for the Rhino Ark charity and we would be very grateful for any support you are able to provide. All funds raised go directly to conservation work; the cost of preparing the vehicle etc is met by the team.
Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu . This provides an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo but also safeguards vital upland watertable habitats for Kenya.
