With Disneyland Paris not hosting any races again this year, I have decided to complete a 10K three times this month, starting with the race I do each year, the Worcester 10K. A race I'm new to, the Nuneaton 10K and one of my favourites, the Bournville Leafy 10K.

Mermaids supports children and young people up to 20 years old who are transgender and/or gender diverse, and their families, and professionals involved in their care.

It is difficult to know how many people are affected, but a number of surveys taken over the last few years point to between 1 and 3% of the population, with a growing number of people identifying as nonbinary.

Transgender and gender variant children and young people need support and understanding, and freedom to explore their gender identity whatever the outcome. Mermaids is committed to helping them and their families to navigate the challenges that they may face, and to provide a sense of community.

More than four in five (83 per cent) trans young people have experienced
name-calling or verbal abuse; three in five (60 per cent) have experienced
threats and intimidation; and more than a third (35 per cent) of trans young
people have experienced physical assault. 

More than one in four (27 per cent) trans young people have attempted to commit suicide and nine in ten (89 per cent) have thought about it. 72 percent have self-harmed at least once.
