Canterbury Half Marathon Trek · 16 September 2017 ·
On the 16th September we are going to put on our walking boots and take on a half-marathon trek through the Canterbury countryside to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.
This is a cause very close to our hearts, having loved ones directly impacted by dementia. Sadly it is becoming an increasingly common illness and the facts are scary. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, expected to be over 1 million by 2025. 225,000 will develop dementia this year alone.
Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity investing in research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention. Currently, there is no cure or way to prevent it. They’ve committed to spending £150 million on cutting-edge research over the next decade so they can try and find ways to care for, cure and possibly even prevent it. However, they can’t achieve this without the support of the public. Every contribution can make a difference and last year, for every £1 they received, they spent 89p on directly improving the lives of people with dementia.
We want to do our bit on the 16th September and every bruise and blister will be worth it, knowing that any money we raise will be helping those in need. We appreciate that there are a number of good causes you may already support but if you are able to help with our fund-raising we will be hugely grateful.
