Picking up and recycling 1 discarded aluminium drinks can saves enough energy to boil water for 14 cups of tea.  Please help me reduce litter, save carbon and raise funds for the Snowdonia Society.

Please sponsor me to...
- pick up and recycle 2,000 aluminium drinks cans by the end of April
- get 100 people to sponsor me 1p per can
- raise £2,000 to help keep Snowdonia wild and beautiful
- save 270kg of CO2.

All I'm asking is for you to sponsor me 1p/can or any other amount you choose. (1p will mean a total of £20 if I reach my target of 2,000 cans.)

- Please donate now on this page, or
- Sponsor me an amount per can on the Snowdonia Society website (copy and paste this text): http://snowdonia-society.org.uk/cansavecarbon/

Litter, aluminium and carbon

Almost all drinks cans in the UK are made of aluminium. Processing raw aluminium uses a huge amount of electricity, yet over 3 billion aluminium drinks cans are discarded and lost or landfilled in the UK every year. In this age of global warming when we are all being urged to reduce our CO2 emissions, it is a scandal that so much aluminium goes to waste.

The Snowdonia Society does great work clearing litter on Snowdon and working to keep Snowdonia such a special place, so I want to clear litter, save carbon and raise money for the Snowdonia Society's work, all at the same time.

How will I reach my target?

I have been picking up and recycling drinks cans for years, as I go about my daily business; in 2015 I picked up approximately 4,500 cans.

For this challenge, I will pick up cans on walks, on cycle tracks, from lay-bys and verges on my way to work, and in and around Brynrefail during my lunch break; I will not make any special trips by car. I am confident that I will reach my 2,000 can target!

Picking up and recycling...

...1 aluminium can saves enough energy to boil water for 14 cups of tea
...2 cans saves CO2 equivalent to driving 1 mile (@50mpg)
...4 aluminium cans saves 1kWh of electricity
...1 tonne of aluminium saves 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
