2022 was a difficult year, my wife was diagnosed with a tumour on her Kidney and had to undertake major surgery (technically known as a “Radical open nephrectomy”) to remove it. Happily she’s made a miraculous recovery but it was suggested she undertake immunotherapy which she started in November.
Without funding for research into these immunotherapy’s many people would face an uncertain future. My wife is benefitting from the latest treatments and hopefully, given time she will be in the clear in the next year or so.
In May 2023 I shall be hiking along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal Towpath from Birmingham then from Worcester to Bewdley along the Severn Way and onto the North Worcestershire Path finishing at Majors Green NE Worcestershire. I have broken this down into five separate days at around 25km per day.
- Day 1: Birmingham to Tardebigge (Bromsgrove) 2nd May
- Day 2: Tardebigge to Worcester 9th May
- Day 3: Worcester to Bewdley 16th May
- Day 4: Bewdley to Romsley 23rd May
- Day 5: Romsley to Majors Green 30th May
I’m doing it this way for personal logistical reasons even though it could be done on consecutive days as I did for my last hike of similar total distance. I hope you understand.

My wife was given the best news ever yesterday (19/12/2023). Her oncologist telephoned to say that her recent CT scan shows she is now clear and cancer free.
