Story
Yes, we're getting married but Ian and I feel we already have all we could ask for at home and would really love to raise some money for Success After Stroke.
My mother was one of the founding members of Success After Stroke after suffering from a stroke herself in '93. She would go weekly to SAS and return energised, comforted and also empowered to help others. As her daughter, I am always amazed at the overwhelming support on offer and really understand how important the community is for families.
Everything raised will contribute to the Liz Greene fund, a pot of gold that takes SAS members on outings, to the theatre for example. I've honestly been hopeless at raising anything until now, and hope you change that!
Success After Stroke is a registered charity and provides support for up to 60 members from the Suffolk area who are recovering from the effects of stroke. It provides therapy, activities, outings and the opportunity for camaraderie among members.
The charity is completely self-funded. It receives no state aid and therefore money has to be raised through fundraising initiatives and charitable grants to cover day-to-day operating costs.
Stroke survivors receive treatment from the NHS for a very short period, normally six weeks, after which survivors and their families are largely on their own and this is where SAS has a vital role to play in providing help and support, sometimes for many years.
