When 4 become 1.....now a solo effort!

I leave John O' Groats on 16th May to cycle 1,000 miles in 10 days for a very good reason.  To give children the start in life that they deserve.

My daughter and son are fortunate that they have parents who read to them every day.  For many children in the UK this is not the case and this coupled with increasing class sizes means that thousands of children leave primary school every year without achieving the basic literacy standards.  This under achievement can have a detrimental effect on a childs ability to live a successful life.  Attempting to catch up can be a real struggle if the foundation skills have been missed.  Children who struggle often never catch up and become frustrated and disengaged from education and ultimately society.  The VRH charity is a nationwide charity which requires funding to train volunteers to visit schools each day to offer one to one support to children who need extra assistance with their reading skills.  With the right support, children who do not have fortunate social surroundings can catch up.  With the help of VRH volunteers, children can have the extra support that they need to become confident readers and literate for life.
