Story
I have decided to support Cyclists fighting cancer as I am really fortunate to have found so much pleasure through cycling, with friends, with my 6 year old son Theodore and solo. Another hobby that started during lockdown, that is a complete blessing and now become part of life. I know how much I thrive on the adrenaline from those declines and also see how much fun it gives Theodore, I would love for children less fortunate and especially those in need to be able to benefit from having some light relief and fun by having their own bicycle.
I have also received lots of support from Joe Lee at the CFC Charity Bike Shop @thecharitybikeshop in Alderminster, for the last 6 years from buying my first mountain bike post partum that had a baby seat on the back, to Theodore’s first balance bike and now popping in there for road bike services, puncture repairs and when I lose my Allen key! They’ve even let me out cycling with them which I feel very honoured by!
CFC provide a unique and highly effective way of helping children and young people with cancer through activity and exercise. Roughly 2,400 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK, and CFC are passionate about helping all these families along this difficult journey. We do this by giving new lightweight bikes, specially adapted trikes, other equipment and support to aid these children in their recovery; improving their physical fitness, strength, mental wellness, confidence, self esteem as well as giving them a much-needed opportunity to have fun with family and friends. The average cost of a bike/trike that we award costs £500 and they range from a trailer/tag-along to a balance bike and a lightweight bike to a fully customised trike.Since the charity began in 2005 we have helped over 7,000 families and we can only continue to help those that really need it with the support of our amazing fundraisers, so thank you!
