Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses. Currently sufferers face an average wait of three and a half years for specialist treatment. Eating disorders can cause serious harm and may be fatal. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. But even though they are serious illnesses, eating disorders are treatable. Beat knows that the sooner someone gets help, the faster they can recover, lessening the impact on their life, family and future. Beat provides training to help teachers and GPs spot the early signs and symptoms of an eating disorder and empowers them with the knowledge to support someone who is unwell. Beats essential Helplines and online support groups give sufferers and their loved ones a place to feel listened to and supported.
Louis and I are both Students studying at Oxford Brookes. We have both seen the challenges people battling eating disorders face. Because of this we have chosen to take part in the David Goggins annual 4x4x48 challenge. Where we will run 4miles every 4hours for 48hours, With the hope of raising £200 for this amazing charity!
