Story
Tabatha always told me that running was not her thing and she would never be a runner. I don't think anyone would have imagined I would be either. But here we are.
From 5th - 8th of January 2023 we are taking part in the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. The weekend has 4 races - a 5k on Thursday, a 10k on Friday, a Half-Marathon on the Saturday and a Marathon on the Sunday. We figured why not start the year with a bang and run all 4 races, for a total of 48.6 miles, otherwise known as the Dopey Challenge. We'll even do it wearing some comical couples costumes.
Because getting up at 5 in the morning and running 48.6 miles isn't enough of a challenge we also decided to commit to this a couple of months after Tab delivered our son Eric by c-section meaning not only have we both had to try and fit in training around raising our beautiful boy but Tab has had to rebuild her fitness pretty much from scratch.
Although this is something we have wanted to do for a while and want to prove to ourselves that we are capable of, it is also an opportunity to bring attention to and raise money for a great cause. Whilst cancer affects many of us, when it affects children I think it is especially heartbreaking.
Our friends lost their little boy Archie in 2018 when he was just 2 years old to neuroblastoma, a rare type of childhood cancer. Even after having fought such a devastating battle the family will forever be affected by the terrible disease. Solving Kids Cancer's vision is for a future where no child dies from neuroblastoma or suffers due to treatment and we can think of no better cause to raise money for by running a staggering 97.2 miles between the both of us.
