Story
The distance between London (where the LLHM will take place) and Calais is over 100 miles. Thousands of refugees continue to make the perilous journey across the channel, hoping for a better life in Britain, yet our society and its politics become more hostile. For people who believe in compassion and empathy, it is easy to feel lost and without cause.
As an act of solidarity, I will be walking the length of the South Downs Way (100+ miles) between 3rd - 6th March, and then running the London Landmarks Half Marathon (13.1 miles) on April 3rd. The distance covered will be a fraction of that travelled by people seeking asylum in the UK; removed is the peril and risk of death. I will be walking further than I have before, with the LLHM added on for good measure, in aid of Refugee Action.
I believe that refugees deserve better, and so I'm fundraising for Refugee Action. They've been standing up for refugees since 1981, and their vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK. They deliver frontline services for refugees, and campaign for their rights. In the year where we've seen the government's anti-refugee bill and the devastating crisis in Afghanistan, we need action.
Please donate if you can, and help fight for a fairer future for refugees and people seeking safety.
