Story
Dear All,
You may or may not know that my lovely mum is battling Alzheimer's & Vascular Dementia, and has been doing so for the last 9 years.
When I last did the Memory Walk in 2018, my mum suffered long periods of confusion, acute anxiety and fear, but retained a funny, bubbly and mischievous spirit. Since then, my mum has continued to put up the most incredible fight - against a disease which is relentless, unpredictable and beats to its own drum.
Sadly it is a long time since my mum has been able to articulate who I am, or indeed been able to see me. Occasionally a glimpse of warmth and affection comes across her face when I am close to her - I treasure these moments, it is all this disease allows me of her now.
Whilst my mum may no longer clearly know who I am and the long goodbye continues - I know who she is - my mum, and undoubtedly a warrior princess.
Many things about this condition leave us feeling scared, angry and helpless, however, taking part in this walk and taking the opportunity to raise some funds to aid research to help others in the future, feels like absolutely the right thing to do.
So please, if you do feel able to spare a few moments of your time and a few pennies to donate to this important cause it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading and for your support.

Dementia is the UKs biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary but we must confront the biggest health & social care challenge of our time. We owe it to the 900,000 people across the UK currently living with dementia to campaign for change, whilst providing vital day-to-day support. By taking part and raising money, or donating to someone who is, you are helping to do this.Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Alzheimer's Society you dont need to do anything and it's the most efficient way to fundraise. So, who will you walk for? #MemoryWalk
